This MATLAB-based app is based on the paper ‘Unique Directional Properties of Dual-Diaphragm Microphones’ by Guy Torio and Jeff Segota. (https://aes.org/publications/elibrary-page/?id=9159) This project is part of MMI501 Transducer Theory Course, Music Engineering (M.S) in University of Miami.
The plot contains the polar patterns of a single diaphragm and dual diaphragm as a function of the target frequency in Hz and sound-to-microphone distance in meter.
A user can change the frequency and S-M distance using the edit box and slider below, to demonstrate the characteristic behaviour of both condenser microphones’ response especially in the lower frequency range below 500Hz.
